The desert is not just sand. As can be seen in this photo, sometimes the ground is strewn with rough boulders that slice through tires, shoes and flesh This trooper wears his Battle Dress (BD) jakcet and trousers. His jacket has faded slightly more than his torusersbecause it has been worn more. His feet are protected by chapplies, the issued sandals given to every LRDG member upon arrival. Lloyd Owen made many comments about the way the sandals,as well as other footwear, fell apart when put through the rigors of long desert marches.
